Do you display your clients' logos on your website?

Or perhaps you are still wondering what your logo should look like and where to even find the inspiration for it?

Each of us has encountered the concept of a trademark at least once in our lives, yet for many of us this concept remains, to say the least, enigmatic.

What are trademarks?

A trademark is a sign that makes it possible to distinguish the goods or services of one business from those of another.

A trademark can, in particular, take the form of a graphic logo.

When a logo is registered as a trademark, its owner and the persons designated by the owner have the exclusive right to use it.

In other words, if you register your logo as a trademark, no one will be able to use it without your consent, and on top of that, no one will be able to register an identical one.

How can you safely display your clients' or partners' logos on your website?

If you want to use your clients' or partners' logos safely on your website, you first and foremost need to obtain their consent to do so.

Usually such consent takes the form of a license, under which the trademark owner allows you to use the mark for the purpose of placing it on your website.

Can you use stock graphics as a logo?

Most stock licenses do not allow you to use the graphics as a logo, let alone register them as a trademark.

Moreover, if you want to register a mark, it must meet certain requirements, the most fundamental of which is distinctiveness.

If you do not have an idea for the logo you want to register later on, it is worth asking yourself a few questions.

First of all, it is worth considering what sets you apart, what is special about you, and whether there might be some distinctive element that is associated with you.

Second, if you are not able to do this on your own, it is worth getting in touch with a graphic designer who will create a logo for you.

Third, if you want to register your logo as a trademark and use it on your website or products, it is worth consulting a lawyer who will carry out an initial assessment of whether such a logo can be registered.

Trademark registers, both for marks registered in Poland, the EU, and various countries around the world, are publicly available.

Although this is often a lengthy process, it is possible to check whether a similar mark has not already been registered earlier.

Summary. If you want to have the exclusive right to use your logo, you can register it as a trademark to strengthen its protection.

If you want to display your clients' or partners' logos on your website, you should obtain their consent to do so.

There is little chance that you will find your future logo on stock platforms, but you can look there for inspiration.

If you are thinking about creating a logo that you will later register, it is worth getting in touch with a graphic designer and a lawyer, who will help you ensure the safe use of a unique logo.
